Behind the Seams: How We Engineer Our Pockets

At KINNAMON, every style is built on a foundation of two spacious, functional pockets—but it’s much more than just slapping pockets onto a dress and calling it a day. What makes our brand unique is we are all about thoughtful design, ensuring that these mostly hidden pockets not only handle the weight of your essentials, but do so without compromising your silhouette. No bulky, saggy dresses here! Instead, we focus on sleek functionality that lets you carry your essentials without disrupting the look.

Our design process typically begins with defining the garment’s overall shape and style then determining how a pocket could be featured. Then it’s about making sure the pocket can withstand the weight of the things you will need to carry, which can include adding inner lining, reinforced stitching, or securing the pocket into another seam. It takes lots of experimenting to see what works and sits right. Having large, fashionable, and functional pockets in our clothes dictates a lot of our creative choices which is why it is easy to see why so many designers leave them out all together.

But we’ve all heard the delighted exclamation—whether from a bride trying on a dress or anyone simply browsing through clothes —“It has pockets!” We think it’s about time that the “novel” concept became standard.

The Irene Knit Dress with Bow Pocket is a distinctive look because the pockets are a prominent design detail, rather than a hidden feature. These standout pockets are lined with an additional inner pocket, allowing them to hold essentials securely without looking overstuffed. They add to the overall symmetry of the dress, mirroring the neckline and are a creative way to feature external pockets, rather than secret internal ones.

At KINNAMON, we're redefining what it means to "dress with pockets"—proving that functional designs can be beautiful and seamless.
